Kumasi Traders who were operating along the Middle Lane of the Kumasi City Market are up in arms against market management, demanding a refund of monies allegedly collected from them before they were evicted from the area.

The aggrieved traders, numbering over 400, claim they were charged sums ranging from GH¢3,000 to GH¢6,000 to secure trading spaces along the Middle Lane.
According to the traders, they were officially allowed to trade at the location for some months before being abruptly evicted, citing the Middle Lane as an emergency access route not meant for commercial activities.

The traders allege that the Operations Manager, Mr. Prince Nyarko, who is also a special assistant to the Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman Nana Akwasi Andrews, instructed the collection of the monies.
Isaac Oppong, leader of the affected traders, speaking to the media, expressed frustration and disappointment over the situation, stating that the financial burden on the traders goes beyond the initial payments.

Akwasi Aning, another leader of the group, echoed Oppong’s sentiments, emphasizing that the traders are demanding a refund if they are no longer allowed to trade at the Middle Lane.
Attempts to get a response from the Operations Manager, Prince Nyarko, were unsuccessful, as he declined to comment on the issue. Market management has denied allegations that any money was collected from the traders, further deepening the dispute.
The situation remains tense, with the traders awaiting a resolution from the authorities. The traders are resolute in their demand for a refund, threatening further action if their concerns are not addressed.
