Use Local Language To Teach Children For National Progress – Evangelist Awuah Tells Leaders

The Founder and Leader of Pillar of Zion Church International, Evangelist Akwasi Awuah, has called on Ghanaian leaders and education authorities to prioritize the use of local languages in teaching children, arguing that it is critical to national progress and development.

Speaking on the topic “Love” – “Odo Ho Asem” to his congregation on August 23, the evangelist said Ghana’s continued reliance on foreign languages as the primary medium of instruction is confusing learners and making teaching and learning less effective for both teachers and pupils.

Foreign Language Makes Learning Difficult

According to Evangelist Awuah, many children struggle not because they lack intelligence, but because they are forced to learn in a language they do not fully understand at home.

“Using other language to teach our children sometimes makes them confused and doesn’t make teaching and learning conducive for both teachers and learners,” he stated.

He argued that when children are taught in their mother tongue, they grasp concepts faster, participate more freely, and retain knowledge better, while teachers are also able to explain ideas more naturally.

“Our Kids Carry Books Like Child Labour”

Evangelist Awuah lamented the burden placed on Ghanaian schoolchildren, saying the current educational system is overly cumbersome.

“Our kids today carry books at their backs like suffering from child labour,” he said.

He questioned the effectiveness of a system that loads pupils with heavy books and foreign concepts, yet fails to produce practical thinkers, innovators and manufacturers.

“We have a lot of professors but they can’t even manufacture one single truck or car,” he added, challenging the nation to rethink its educational philosophy from basic schools to the university level.

For him, true development comes when education is relevant, practical, and rooted in the learner’s own language and cultural reality.

Love Is The Foundation For Development

Linking his message on education to his main theme of love, Evangelist Awuah said Ghana’s lack of progress is also tied to a lack of genuine love for one another.

“If we have known the real meaning of love, we will treat our neighbours very well as ourselves,” he said.

He reminded the congregation that “love is not arrogant, love is kind, love is patient,” and stressed that love should reflect in how leaders treat citizens, how neighbours relate, and how Christians live.

Without love, he argued, society breeds selfishness, arrogance and underdevelopment.

Urge To Embrace God’s Love

The preacher urged Christians and the entire congregation to embrace the love of God and live it out in practical ways.

He cautioned against pretence and pride, noting that many people project what they do not have.

“A lot of people boast or brag as if they have, but they don’t,” he hinted.

Evangelist Awuah concluded by calling on leaders, teachers, parents and Christians to show love through actions by reforming how children are taught, by caring for one another, and by building a Ghana where knowledge leads to real solutions and practical progress.
