Ghana laments the death of music legend Daddy Lumba, who was 60.

Following the passing of one of its most recognisable and significant singers, Charles Kojo Fosu, better known by his stage name Daddy Lumba, Ghana is in sorrow.

 

After a brief illness, the renowned highlife artist passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, according to a statement issued by the Fosu family’s attorney, Fati Ali Yallah, Esq.

 

Daddy Lumba was referred to in the statement as a “cultural icon whose music touched countless lives,” rather than just a musician.

 

His timeless songs and beautiful voice have been the soundtrack to many generations of love tales, heartbreaks, victories, and the daily hardships of regular Ghanaians.

Daddy Lumba is one of the most renowned artists in Ghanaian music history, having produced numerous albums and iconic singles over the course of a three-decade career.

Fans throughout and abroad were greatly moved by his emotive delivery, lyrical depth, and highlife genre expertise. The Fosu family statement said, in part: “His moving lyrics encapsulated the poetry of our hardships, aspirations, and fortitude.”

Fans, artists, politicians, and cultural leaders all paid their respects to Daddy Lumba as word of his departure spread, praising his enduring contribution to Ghanaian arts and culture.

The family has stated that funeral plans would be revealed in the next several days and has asked for privacy during this trying time.

Daddy Lumba makes a lasting impression on Ghana’s cultural legacy through his music and encouragement. He was sixty years old.
