The Assembly Member for Aprade Mesewam Electoral Area, Hon. KOB, has expressed disappointment and concern over comments made by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, regarding the Agenda 111 Hospital project at Kokoben in the Oforikrom Municipality.
In a press statement, Hon. KOB described the Minister’s comments as “disappointing and unacceptable”, stating that the facility was commissioned by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on December 5, 2024, with the core infrastructure completed to a significant level.
He emphasized that the current government should prioritize operationalizing the hospital instead of making excuses.
“The attempt to paint the facility as ‘non-existent’ or ‘non-functional’ is not only misleading but also does not serve the interest of the good people of Oforikrom,” Hon. KOB stated.
He urged the Minister to focus on action and ensure the hospital is fully equipped and operational, highlighting the urgent need for quality healthcare in the rapidly growing municipality.
With a population of over 500,000 people, including students and vulnerable groups, Hon. KOB emphasized that access to quality healthcare is not negotiable.
He noted that the hospital, if operationalized, could save lives, reduce pressure on existing health facilities, and create jobs for health professionals.
The Assembly Member also took issue with the Minister’s apparent lack of commitment to completing the project, stating that Ghanaians did not vote for complaints but for solutions.
He called on the Minister to respect the efforts of the previous government, which laid a solid foundation through Agenda 111, and to work towards operationalizing the hospital.
The Kokoben Agenda 111 Hospital has been a subject of controversy, with the Minister’s comments sparking concerns about the government’s commitment to healthcare delivery.
Hon. KOB’s statement is seen as a call to action, urging the government to prioritize the hospital’s completion and operationalization.
