Ashanti Regional Minister Hosts 10 Orphanage Homes at AshantiFest 2026, Shares Personal Story of Resilience

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has dined with children from 10 orphanage homes at the branded Asokwa Interchange as part of activities marking AshantiFest 2026.

The event brought together orphans, caregivers, and regional officials for a day of fellowship, mentorship, and encouragement under the festival’s social outreach initiative.

Minister Recounts Personal Struggles
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Amoakohene shared a deeply personal account of his upbringing. He recounted how life became extremely difficult for him when his father died a day after his Senior High School results were released.

He explained that the tragedy left his mother as a single parent. To keep his education on track, his elder brother made significant sacrifices to support him through school.

“That was one of the most difficult periods of my life. But sacrifice and determination from my family kept me going,” the Minister told the children.

Call to Stay Focused on Dreams
Dr. Amoakohene urged the orphans not to abandon their dreams because of their current circumstances. He encouraged them to use their situation as motivation to remain focused on their goals and future careers.

“Do not shut down your dreams because of where you find yourself today. Let your situation charge you to stay focused and work harder toward your goals. Your background does not define your future,” he said.

AshantiFest 2026 Community Impact
The dining event formed part of AshantiFest 2026, a regional festival that blends culture, entertainment, and social intervention. This year’s edition has prioritised outreach to vulnerable groups, including children in orphanages.

The branded Asokwa Interchange provided a symbolic venue for the gathering, highlighting government’s efforts to use public spaces for community development and inclusion.

Caregivers from the participating homes thanked the Regional Minister and the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council for the gesture, noting that the interaction gave the children renewed hope and a sense of belonging.

Dr. Amoakohene reaffirmed the Regional Coordinating Council’s commitment to supporting vulnerable children and pledged to work closely with the Department of Social Welfare to address challenges facing orphanages in the region.

The Minister spent time serving meals, interacting with the children, and listening to their aspirations. Officials described the engagement as a morale booster that aligns with AshantiFest 2026’s theme of unity and shared prosperity.
