The Chief of Manso Keniago, Nana Obeng Mensah Ababio II, has issued a stern warning to illegal miners, cautioning them not to take the integrity of the community for granted through their unlawful activities.
Speaking on the growing concerns over illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, in parts of Amansie South, Nana Obeng Mensah Ababio II stressed that neither he nor the Manso Keniago community would be associated with the menace.

“I highly uphold the esteem and integrity of my throne, and I will deal with anyone who dares to bring the throne of our ancestors and forefathers into disrepute,” the chief declared.
He emphasised that the stool of Manso Keniago has a long-standing reputation for discipline and respect for the law, and that reputation will not be compromised by the actions of illegal miners.
Nana Obeng Mensah Ababio II questioned why illegal miners would invoke the name of Manso Keniago in their operations when there are recognised mining associations in Amansie South that regulate activities in the sector.

“There is an association in Amansie South. Why shouldn’t you contact the association or involve the association, but rather involve Manso Keniago?” he asked.
The chief reiterated that Manso Keniago does not condone illegal mining and will not shield any individual or group engaged in the practice.
He called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious mining activity to the traditional authorities and security agencies.
He further urged government and relevant regulatory bodies to intensify the fight against galamsey to protect water bodies, farmlands, and the environment in the Amansie enclave.
Nana Obeng Mensah Ababio II reaffirmed his commitment to preserving the dignity of the Manso Keniago stool and protecting the community’s lands from environmental degradation linked to illegal mining.
