Asanko Gold Mines Crowned Winner of 2025 National Inter-Mines Safety Competition

 

Asanko Gold Mines Limited has emerged as the winner of the community teams category in the 2025 National Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety Competition, organized by the Ghana Chamber of Mines.

The competition, which brings together staff and community teams from large-scale mining firms, showcases their preparedness in responding to emergencies both within mining sites and in host communities.

Asanko Gold Mines’ community team scored an impressive 98%, beating Abosso Goldfields Damang, which scored 89%, AngloGold Obuasi Mine with 85.5%, and the Ghana Manganese Company, which scored 27%. Other participating companies included Golden Star Wassa, AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem, and AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi.


In the staff category, Golden Star Wassa took the top spot with 59%, followed closely by Asanko Gold Mine with 58.5%, AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi with 52%, and AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem with 50%. The competition highlights the importance of safety training and preparedness in the mining industry.

The Director for Analysis, Research, and Finance at the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Christopher Opoku Darko, emphasized the significance of engaging community teams and empowering women to participate in safety competitions. “A mine is not truly safe unless the community around it is also safe,” he noted.

The Managing Director of Asanko Gold Mine Limited, Dr. Charles Amoah, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to safety, stating that it is not just a one-day event but a mindset and way of life that must be prioritized at all times. He commended the Ghana Chamber of Mines for the privilege of hosting the competition.

This year’s competition was themed “Every Moment is an Ambush, Think Safety All the Time,” emphasizing the importance of prioritizing safety in all aspects of life.

The event serves as a platform for mining companies to demonstrate their commitment to safety and preparedness.
