Toasehene Declares War on Galamsey: Chiefs Warned to Desist or Lose Thrones

The Toasehene, Nana Yim Awere Ababio, has issued a stern warning to chiefs in the Toase Traditional Council, cautioning that any chief found to be involved in illicit mining, commonly known as galamsey, will be destooled. This warning comes amid growing concerns over the devastating impact of galamsey on the environment and water resources in the area.

Nana Yim Awere Ababio expressed his deep concern about the destruction caused by galamsey in the Toase Traditional Area.

He lamented that the land and properties left behind by their forefathers are being destroyed, and some rivers and streams have dried up or been polluted, making it impossible for residents to access clean water.

Toasehene’s warning is clear: any chief found to be involved in galamsey will face the ultimate sanction of being destooled. This move is seen as a bold step towards protecting the environment and ensuring that those in positions of authority do not engage in activities that harm their communities.

Nana Yim Awere Ababio’s warning highlights the need for urgent action to protect the environment and water resources in the area. Galamsey has been a major concern in Ghana, with many communities suffering the consequences of environmental degradation and water pollution.

Toasehene’s warning serves as a call to action for all stakeholders, including traditional leaders, government agencies, and civil society organizations, to work together to combat the menace of galamsey and protect the environment for future generations.
