Tafo Nhyiaeso Assemblyman Hon. Owusu King Crowned 2025 Overall Best at Damak- IDP Sanitation Excellence Awards

The Assemblyman for the Tafo-Nhyiaeso Electoral Area and Chief Executive Officer for Royal Nursing College, Hon. Owusu King, has been chosen the overall best winner 2025 for working substantially towards improving the Sanitation situation in the area.

In its third edition of the Sanitation Excellence Awards, Damak-IDP, in collaboration with International Direct Project (IDP), a Swiss organisation, honoured and recognised people who have, in their capacity, contributed in a variety of ways with the goal of improving the sanitation situation in their community or communities.

The august awards night gathered major characters from all walks of life, including the political line, who were present to witness the event, as eight (8) individuals have been picked to win this year’s honours.

Among the individuals that won awards were Hon. Owusu King, Tafo Nhyiaeso Assemblyman and Royal Nursing College CEO, Hon. Samuel Kolebil Duanuuri, Assemblyman for Adenyaase Sawaaba Electoral Area, Alhaji Ibrahim Wahab Tikuma, Chief Butcher, Kumasi Abattoir, Alhaji Abubakari, Managing Director of Basfarm Company, and many more have received various categories of accolades. The ultimate winner, Hon. After accepting the prize, Owusu King thanked the organisers and expressed his gratitude.

He also acknowledged that he would like to offer his assistance in order to effectively address the issue of clean sanitation as a group.

He, however, asked the people, especially his colleagues in the Assembly (s) to join the Damak-IDP Sanitation campaign to assist maintain their communities safe and clean.

Alhaji Ibrahim Wahab Tikum, the company’s chief butcher and recipient of an excellent award, stated that his group will keep enhancing the abattoir’s hygienic conditions. emphasised that there won’t be clean meat if the environment isn’t clean.

Kumasi Abattoir will soon undergo a spectacular makeover, meanwhile, as plans to convert the abattoir company into an AA meat processing facility in West Africa are in the works and discussions with the government are nearing completion.

The Director of Damak Sanitation Health Watch Ghana, Daniel Mbabugri Akgri, said, before an awardee is nominated, an indepth background investigation are conducted by a team of the organisation’s media before an awardee is selected .

This, he said, the selection is being determined by a Google Digital Address System checker. This system, he noted help to ensure transparent and credibile outcome.

According to him, since the organisation’s prime objective is to providing innovative measures towards reducing sanitary coimproving, the organisation will be launching a project targeting school children in all districts, Municipal and Metropolitan assemblies in 2026 where we can instill the habit of cleanness in children at a tender age so that when they grow, they can become abreast with environmental cleanness.

Pierre P. Petitjean, Director of the International Direct Project (IDP) a Switzerland-based partner deeply committed to advancing global health and sustainability—extended his heartfelt appreciation to the 2025 Damak-IDP Sanitation Excellence awardees. “Your tireless efforts are the bedrock of change,” he said, highlighting their role in pushing Ghana closer to Sustainable Development Goal 6: clean water and sanitation for all. With a smile, he assured the honoured individuals of IDP’s unwavering support, emphasizing that their collaboration goes beyond recognition.

“We don’t just celebrate; we co-create solutions.” Petitjean then unveiled a key initiative: “Water for All” a strategic push to install mechanized boreholes in deprived communities across Ashanti Region. “No community should lack safe drinking water. No child should miss school for a bucket.”

Part of IDP’s operational footprint, these projects will amplify access, spark local economies, and nurture health. “Together, let’s make sanitation a movement.”
