Residents of Dedesua in Bosomtwe District Appeal for Toilet Facility and Waste Disposal Site

Residents of Dedesua in the Bosomtwe District are calling on authorities to address urgent sanitation challenges, citing the lack of a functional public toilet and a designated refuse dumping site in the community.

In an exclusive interview, Hon. Kwame Mensah, former Assembly Member for the Nkwanta Dedesua Electoral Area, said the community’s only public toilet was constructed over a decade ago under the Mills administration by the then Minister of Energy, Hon. Oteng Agyei.

According to him, the facility has not undergone any maintenance since it was built, leaving it in a deteriorated state and insufficient to serve the growing population.

“The only toilet we have was built during President Mills’ government. Since then, there has been no maintenance, and it can no longer meet the needs of the people,” Hon. Mensah stated.

He noted that the absence of proper sanitation infrastructure has forced some residents to resort to open defecation, raising concerns about public health and hygiene in the area.

Beyond sanitation, Hon. Mensah highlighted limited access to potable water as another pressing issue facing the community. He said the lack of reliable water sources has compounded the sanitation problem, making it difficult for households to maintain basic hygiene standards.

Residents are appealing to the Bosomtwe District Assembly and relevant government agencies to prioritize Dedesua in ongoing sanitation and water projects. They are calling for the rehabilitation of the existing toilet facility, construction of additional ones, and the provision of a designated site for solid waste disposal.

Community leaders say improved sanitation and access to clean water would significantly enhance living conditions and reduce the risk of waterborne diseases in the area.
