Obuasi MCE Commissions GH¢1.18 Million Water and Education Projects to Boost Access in Municipality

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has commissioned six development projects valued at GH¢1,182,309.68 to improve access to clean water and enhance educational infrastructure in the municipality.

The projects comprise four mechanised boreholes and two key educational facilities an eight-seater washroom and a refurbished kindergarten block at the Bediem Experimental Basic School.

The boreholes, sited at Awonakrom, Bediem, Kulem, and the Railways enclave, are expected to address longstanding water supply challenges and provide residents with reliable access to potable water.

Call for Community Ownership and Maintenance
Speaking at the commissioning, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin urged beneficiary communities to take ownership of the facilities and adopt a strong maintenance culture to ensure long-term benefits.

“These projects are meant to serve you for a long time. It is your responsibility to ensure they are properly maintained and used for their intended purpose,” she stated, expressing concern over the poor maintenance of public facilities in some communities.

The MCE attributed the successful execution of the projects to government support and expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for making the necessary resources available. She also commended the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, for his leadership and commitment to the development of the municipality.

Education Directorate Welcomes Intervention
The Municipal Director of Education, Alfred George Koomson, speaking on behalf of the Bediem Experimental Basic School, thanked the Assembly for the intervention. He noted that the refurbished kindergarten block and new washroom would improve the learning environment and sanitation for pupils, and urged staff and students to maintain the facilities.

Residents Describe Projects as Timely
Residents in the beneficiary communities welcomed the projects, with particular emphasis on the boreholes amid ongoing water challenges in parts of the municipality.

“With the water situation in some areas affected by pollution, this intervention is timely. Water is life, and this will greatly improve our living conditions,” a resident said.

Part of Broader Infrastructure Drive
The two-day commissioning exercise was attended by the Presiding Member of the Assembly, David Odoom; the Municipal Coordinating Director, Joyce Akosua Angmorteh; Assembly Members; and staff of the Assembly.

The six projects form part of a broader infrastructure drive by the Obuasi Municipal Assembly. According to the Assembly, 19 additional projects are expected to be commissioned by June this year as part of efforts to expand access to basic services across the municipality.
