Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has marked 27 years on the Golden Stool with a grand celebration honouring prominent national leaders, business executives, and diplomats for their contributions to Asanteman and Ghana’s development.

The event, held under the theme _“Advancing Peace and Sustainable Economic Development Through Royal Vision,”_ brought together distinguished figures from traditional, political, business, diplomatic, and religious circles.

It was organized by E ON 3 Group in partnership with the Diaspora Affairs Office at the Office of the President and Manhyia Palace, with KGL Group of Companies as headline sponsor.

Honourees Span Politics, Business, Diplomacy
Among the honourees were President John Dramani Mahama, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and former Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Others included Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohunu, Sir Samuel Esson Jonah KBE, KGL Group Executive Chairman Alex Apau Dadey, Nick Group Chairman Nick Danso, and Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.

The occasion highlighted the Asantehene’s commitment to fostering collaboration and recognizing service to the nation. The honours reinforced the role of traditional leadership in complementing modern statecraft and advancing national progress.

Dadey, KGL GroupGroup Singled Out for Praise
In his address, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed high praise for Mr. Alex Apau Dadey, Founder and Executive Chairman of KGL Group, urging him to continue his contributions to national development and the growth of Asanteman.

Under Dadey’s leadership, KGL Group has partnered with Asanteman on several legacy projects. These include the multi-million-dollar KGL-EVE Medical Centre at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the Kumasi Medical Village.

The facility will provide specialized mental health, wellness, and general medical services for women and children, serving the Ashanti Region, Middle Belt, and the five Northern Regions. It features psychiatric consultation rooms, therapy and counseling units, inpatient wards, diagnostic and pharmacy services, rehabilitation spaces, and administrative offices.

In December 2021, KGL Group became the only indigenous company to acquire the first 24-karat Otumfuo Commemorative Gold Coin for One Million Ghana Cedis to support Asanteman development and a cultural resource center. The 1-ounce coin honours Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and was the first of its kind in Ghana, celebrating his reign and contributions to peace and stability.

Dignitaries Hail Otumfuo’s Leadership
The event featured remarks from key dignitaries, including former President Akufo-Addo, former Vice-President Dr. Bawumia, Commonwealth Secretary-General Botchwey, and the Olu of Warri Kingdom in Nigeria, His Royal Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, who attended with Her Royal Highness Olori Atuwatse III.

Also present were Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama, Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe Addo who represented President Mahama, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Council of State Member Betty Mould-Iddrisu, businessman Daniel McKorley, and Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko.

Sir Sam Jonah, Chairman of the “World-Meets-in-Ghana Executive Dinner Ball,” said the Commemorative Gold Coin was minted to express gratitude and recognize Otumfuo’s legacy in his lifetime. Speaking on April 24, 2026, he noted that societies often wait until leaders have passed before appreciating their impact. “The Gold Coin breaks that pattern,” he said.

In a statement read on his behalf by Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, President Mahama credited the Asantehene with strengthening and sustaining peace in Ghana for the past 27 years. He cited Otumfuo’s interventions in the Dagbon and Bawku chieftaincy disputes.

Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey remarked that “Asantehene has shown over many years that traditional leadership and modern statecraft are not in contradiction. At their best, they strengthen one another. The moral authority of tradition, exercised with wisdom and integrity, can help societies find balance, restore dialogue, and move forward together, anchored in values tested by time.”

The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, described Otumfuo as a “builder and guardian of peace,” crediting his 27-year reign with deliberate leadership that has secured stability in Ghana and beyond.

Dadey Pledges Continued Support
In his remarks, Mr. Alex Apau Dadey expressed gratitude to the Asantehene for the recognition and honour. He assured Otumfuo Osei Tutu II of his continued contributions to the socio-economic transformation of Asanteman, Ghana, Africa, and the world at large.

The 27th anniversary celebration underscored the Asantehene’s enduring influence in peacebuilding, development, and the bridging of traditional authority with modern governance.
