May 2 Set for One-Week Observance of Hon. Nana Kyeame Apratwum Godfrey’s Late Mother

The family of Hon. Nana Kyeame Apratwum Godfrey has announced that the one-week observance for his late mother, Mrs. Vida Owusu Apratwum, will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, in Kumasi.

The ceremony will take place at the CCC Joy Chapel Park, behind the Tech Police Station at Ayigya, and is expected to draw family members, friends, political associates, and well-wishers.

In a statement announcing her passing, Hon. Nana Apratwum said he does so “with a heavy heart.” He described the late Mrs. Apratwum as a beloved mother whose death has brought profound grief to the family.

He has extended an open invitation to the public to join the family in mourning and to offer support during this period.

“He called on all and sundry to come and support him and the family in this difficult time,” the family statement noted.

The one-week observance is a longstanding Ghanaian tradition observed seven days after a person’s passing.

It serves as the first formal gathering where the bereaved family receives sympathisers, accepts condolences, and announces plans for the final funeral and burial rites.

For many families, it also provides an opportunity to celebrate the life of the deceased while uniting relatives and community members in shared grief.

Mrs. Vida Owusu Apratwum is remembered by her family as a cherished matriarch whose guidance and values shaped her children and those around her. Details of her life and contributions to her community are expected to be highlighted during the May 2 observance.

The family indicated that the date for the burial service and final funeral rites will be formally communicated at the one-week gathering, in line with custom.

Since news of her passing was made public, Hon. Nana Apratwum and his family have received messages of condolence from community leaders, associates, and members of the general public.

The family has expressed appreciation for the outpouring of support and has requested continued prayers as they navigate the period of mourning.
