Assuring Ghanaians that his administration will hold public officials to the greatest ethical standards, President John Mahama has promised to step up the battle against corruption.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serving all citizens, regardless of their political, ethnic, or religious backgrounds, while speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service at the Ohene Konadu Auditorium, UPSA in Accra.
He emphasized the importance of combating corruption, characterizing it as a grave threat to the foundation of society.
“I want to reassure every Ghanaian that I stand here as president for all of you, regardless of your political, ethnic, or religious affiliation as we celebrate this victory,” he stated.
Potential appointees were reminded by the President of the strict criteria that will characterize his administration. Public office holders shall be held to the highest standards of professionalism and ethics.
Knowing that corruption threatens the foundation of our society, he declared, “We will intensify the fight against corruption relentlessly.” He went on to say that public servants would be held to the greatest standards of professionalism and ethics.
The President emphasized his commitment to making sure that public office is not a place for personal gain but rather a platform for responsible service to the nation’s standards, warning those of you submitting your resumes that it will not be business as usual.
President Mahama emphasized the responsibility of all residents to nurture and safeguard the country by drawing a comparison between Ghana and the biblical Garden of Eden.
“In Genesis 2:15, the Bible says the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
This verse reminds us of our duty to be good stewards of our nation. We must take Ghana as our Eden, entrusted to us by God to work and care for diligently.”
Restoring economic growth, advancing sustainable energy, safeguarding the environment, and guaranteeing fair resource allocation are among the goals the president listed for his government.
He pledged to create a country that future generations would be proud of and urged everyone to work together and be determined to tackle the obstacles that lie ahead.
“I really ask for your continuous prayers and cooperation as we set out on this road. Being a nation’s leader demands strength, courage, humility, and wisdom. Knowing that we are nothing without God, I will always seek the advice of men and women of God,” he declared.
In closing, he exhorted Ghanaians to join together in prayer and action. As we cooperate to restore our country, let’s keep praying, seeking God’s direction, and being humble. May God richly bless our dear country and lead and bless us in the work that lies ahead.
