Refrain from Social Media Whiles on Duty – Toasehemaa Charge Nurses

Toasehemaa, Nana Amonu Gyamfua Serwaa Bonsu, has advised nurses to exercise patience and compassion when attending to patients.

Speaking at the 5th Graduation and Matriculation ceremony of Neumann College in Atwima Takyiman, Ashanti Region, she emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism in the nursing profession.

Nana Amonu Gyamfua Serwaa Bonsu also cautioned nurses against the misuse of social media while on duty. She urged them to prioritize their patients’ needs and avoid engaging in social media activities that may compromise their professional obligations.

This warning comes on the heels of a recent statement by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana, which expressed concern over the increasing trend of unprofessional behavior among nurses and midwives on social media.

The Toasehemaa’s advice is consistent with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana’s emphasis on upholding professional integrity. The Council has warned nurses and midwives against engaging in unprofessional conduct on social media, citing the misuse of nursing and midwifery uniforms, abusive language, and dissemination of misleading health information as areas of concern.

Toasehemaaa also charged nurses to focus on providing quality care to patients, avoiding distractions and minimizing the use of social media while on duty.

Adding that, Nurses should refrain from sharing confidential patient information, avoiding abusive language, and verifying health information before sharing it on social media and following these guidelines, nurses can maintain the trust and confidence of their patients, uphold the integrity of the nursing profession, and provide high-quality care to those in need.
