Over $138 million will be lost by Ghana as a result of US aid cuts to Health and HIV/AIDS Programs.

Due to the United States’ decision to stop funding HIV/AIDS initiatives, Ghana is expected to lose about $138.7 million in financial help this year.

The USAID Foreign Assistance Discretionary Request Report called for the funds, which was intended to promote important areas like governance, economic growth, health, and education.

According to source, Ghana typically receives more than $130 million in aid each year.

USAID provided more than $150 million in bilateral assistance last year alone, with that amount going towards governance, education, health, and agriculture, among other vital areas. Ghana requested $138.7 million this year; however, that sum will no longer be accessible.

With a $69.2 million aid request devoted to preventing malaria, enhancing health security, maternity and child health, family planning, reproductive health, and nutrition, the health sector will be among the most severely impacted.

These vital projects are now in jeopardy due to the US’s withdrawal of financing. Significant harm will also be done to the battle against HIV/AIDS.

The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), an effort to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and assist people who are affected by the disease, has been helping Ghana since 2007.

In order to combat the epidemic, the program has committed over $132 million in Ghana throughout the years, collaborating closely with local partners.

However, efforts to offer antiretroviral medicine, testing, and prevention programs will be impacted by the most recent funding loss.

Ghana faces a significant problem as a result of the US aid pullout since budget shortages may affect important programs for economic development and public health.

Ghana could need to look at other funding options in the future to maintain its advancements in these areas.
