MTN Ghana Invests in Education: 500 Scholarships Awarded to Students and Teachers

The MTN Ghana Foundation has given out 500 Bright Scholarships to worthy teachers and students for the 2025–2026 school year as part of its yearly CSR programs. The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Law Faculty hosted the awards event on Monday, September 8, 2025. The occasion demonstrated MTN’s ongoing dedication to promoting national development and education.

Three hundred undergraduate students pursuing degrees in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) and vocational subjects will get computers, tuition, housing, and stipends as part of this year’s scholarship package. Teachers attending public colleges were given an additional 200 scholarships to improve their professional abilities.

General Manager of Sustainability and Shared Value Isaac Mate, speaking on behalf of MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett, disclosed that 3,691 applications were submitted to the Foundation. Based on need and merit, 500 of these candidates were chosen from a shortlist of 1,200. Financial aid is only one aspect of the scholarship. “It’s about securing Ghana’s future, unlocking potential, and investing in dreams,” Blewett wrote in his statement.

In addition to the beneficiaries individually, he reminded them that their accomplishments would help their families, communities, and the country as a whole. Future doctors, scientists, professors, judges, businesspeople, and national leaders are among you.

He exhorted them to shine brightly since the future is bright. The high rates of first-year tertiary student dropouts owing to financial limitations prompted the creation of the Bright Scholarship program in 2018. Since then, MTN has helped more than 1,000 students nationwide. The Foundation’s mission, according to Blewett, is to enable young Ghanaians to follow their dreams, get over financial obstacles, and contribute significantly to the country’s growth.

He was optimistic that the recipients would not only graduate with degrees but also develop the curiosity and fortitude required to address the most important issues facing Ghana and Africa. Recipients of the scholarship thanked the MTN Ghana Foundation and promised to take full use of the opportunity.
