In conjunction with this year’s Valentine’s Day celebration, the telecom behemoth MTN Ghana organized a blood drive at three senior high schools in Kumasi.
The gesture was executed in cooperation with Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Blood Bank health officials.
The KNUST, Asanteman, and Bonwire Senior High Schools were the recipients. The action is part of the MTN “Save a Life Campaign,” an annual Valentine’s Day blood drive run by the MTN Ghana Foundation.
It gives MTN employees and members of the public the chance to donate blood in order to support regional hospitals and the National Blood Bank.
The National Blood Service launched the program in 2011 in response to requests for volunteer donations to alleviate the severe shortage of blood supply.
The exercise has successfully raised more than 29,000 units of blood throughout the years.
In order to support the National Blood Service and the blood banks of significant regional hospitals around the nation, 6,110 units of blood are needed this year.
Simon Amoh, Senior Manager of General Trade (Northern Sector), spoke to the media on the sidelines of the contribution at KNUST and emphasized that the gesture is MTN’s way of showing love to the people in the regions where it operates.
We received over 5,000 units of blood last year. We want to accomplish more this year because more is required.
He emphasized, “We have envisioned doing more so that many people can stay healthy.”
