Mahama vows to improve conditions so that young people can flourish.

After winning the general elections on December 7, President-elect John Dramani Mahama said he felt a strong sense of duty to Ghana’s young.

Mahama praised the youth’s enthusiasm and lofty aspirations during his campaign rallies, characterizing them as a sobering reminder of the work still to be done to transform Ghana’s future and guarantee a higher standard of living for all of its citizens.

With 6,328,397 votes (56.55 percent of the valid ballots), Mahama defeated his closest rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 4,657,304 votes (41.61%).

In a Monday, December 16 interview with DW TV, Mahama talked about the optimism of young Ghanaians and expressed his admiration for their fervour.

“I feel humbled and ready to give it my all so that I can turn this country around and create a better future for our young people after seeing the faces of the young people I saw at all the rallies and their high expectations of our government.”

In Ghana, I refer to it as reset. We must start over in order to improve the conditions for our youth to flourish and provide them with sufficient opportunities to reach their greatest potential.

Mahama also promised that his government would focus on fostering an environment that allows all young Ghanaians, regardless of background, to have big dreams and succeed.
