
A Children’s Support Fund has been established by President John Dramani Mahama to provide for the children of the eight people who perished in the helicopter crash on August 6.
He disclosed that GHC 500,000 was given as an initial seed capital by Stanbic Bank to launch the project.

President Mahama paid respects to the dead, calling the catastrophe a national tragedy that has “cast its shadow over the heart of Ghana.” He stated that the fund will pay for the victims’ children’s education from elementary school through college when speaking at the memorial service for six of the fatalities on Friday, August 15.
He promised that the fund would be maintained through yearly public reports and would have avenues for public and foreign partners to contribute.
The President praised Stanbic Bank for their assistance, saying: According to its official name, the Fund for the Children of the August 6 Victims will pay for welfare support, clothing, housing, special living expenses, healthcare, including medical insurance, and education from primary school through university or technical training.
“I would like to express my gratitude to Stanbic for opening an account with a GHC 500,000 initial investment. This Fund will receive an initial seed payment from the government. and will, during the next 30 days, operationalise and publish a comprehensive framework for the Children’s Support Fund”.
Dr. Ibrahim Muntala Muhammad, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, were two of the victims who were laid to rest on 10 August.
August 15 saw the burial of the last six: Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Samuel Aboagye, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.
