The Minister for Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has voiced hope that President John Dramani Mahama will expand the number of Ghanaian diaspora people in his cabinet.
During his vetting on Friday, January 31, Kwakye Ofosu emphasized the President’s history of embracing diversity and shattering barriers in government.
He praised President Mahama’s progressive leadership style at the outset of his speech, calling him a trailblazer who has continuously broken down social and political barriers.
The Minister-Designate claims that Mahama’s government has shown a strong commitment to inclusivity by making sure that no group or segment of society is left behind.
“Considering what he has demonstrated thus far, I won’t be shocked if diasporan individuals who demonstrate aptitude and skill are given a position in his administration.
Every glass ceiling has been smashed by him. “I will not be surprised when that happens except that I am unable to state categorically that that will happen and so I will leave that to the government.” Almost every segment of society has found a place in his government.
Hon. Ofosu Kwakye cited the historic selection of Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as Vice President by President Mahama, who became the first woman in Ghanaian history to occupy such a role.
He also commended the President’s selection of a significant number of women and members of under-represented groups to important roles, reaffirming his dedication to diversity and gender equality.
Hon. Felix elaborated on his argument by pointing out the Ghanaian diaspora’s enormous potential to support national development.
He recognized the large number of highly qualified experts and professionals residing outside, whose experience may be crucial in influencing laws and spurring innovation across a range of industries.
