President John Dramani Mahama’s “tot-tot” approach to ministerial appointments has angered Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
His remarks came after the Speaker of Parliament declared that the President had proposed three Minister-designates for review by the Appointments Committee.
On Thursday, January 9, President Mahama appointed Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as the Finance Minister-designate, John Abdulai Jinapor as the Energy Minister-designate, and Dominic Akuritinga Ayine as the Attorney General and Minister of Justice-designate.
Speaking to Parliament, Afenyo-Markin argued that rather than appointing individuals one at a time, a government committed to establishing a “24-hour economy” should have a whole list of cabinet nominations on available.
He underlined that this approach would delay crucial governance processes and create uncertainty in significant sectors. “Mr. Speaker only read out three names when he read out the names.
The Attorney General, Minister of Justice, Finance Minister Designate, and Energy Minister Designate.
“This ‘tot-tot-tot-tot’ nomination is inappropriate”, Mr. Speaker.
In opposition, this government pledged a 24-hour economy, Mr. Speaker. Afenyo-Markins continued, “They informed us that they were prepared for government.”
