“Freemasonry does not oppose Christ; I am a devout Catholic.” – Afenyo-Markin Refuted assertions.

Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader, has denied accusations that Freemasonry is anti-Christian and maintained that it adheres to Christian values.

He insisted that his fraternity membership did not contradict his Catholic beliefs during an interview with Channel One TV on Wednesday, January 29.

His comments addressed the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference’s worries when he revealed in public during a parliamentary vetting that he is a Freemason and a Catholic.

The Church reiterated its stance that Freemasonry and Catholicism are incompatible in a letter issued by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference President, Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi.

Afenyo-Markin, however, brushed off these worries, claiming that “Freemasonry is not anti-Christ.” You have to profess Christ at the highest level of Masonry, if nothing else. People say stuff and don’t know.

However, I’m prepared for that discussion. The Minority Leader made it clear that he is still a devout Catholic and is willing to communicate with Church leaders. “First, my church.

The church listens, shows love, and demonstrates sympathy without imposing its will on others.

I have not received any correspondence from my archbishop, Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle. Although I’ve been witnessing letters flying, no one has personally written to me.

Afenyo-Markin also claimed that he would not shy away from disclosing his affiliations, pointing out that many Catholics are Freemasons but dread public scrutiny.

I’m a devout Catholic. I’m prepared to talk about the fraternities I belong to. I wouldn’t have brought it up if I was scared.

Many Catholics who are Freemasons are reluctant to discuss their membership.
