Along the Walewale-Tamale route, a wave of violence connected to the Bawku dispute causes concerns.
After attackers ambushed and set a commercial bus on fire, four people including an infant were rendered completely charred.
The attack comes after other similar instances, such as an earlier this week ambush near Wulugu that claimed three lives.
Authorities believe the attacks are connected to the ongoing rivalry between the Bawku chieftaincy.
Bawku Conflict: Brutal Highway Attack Burns Four Dead, Including Infant A brutal gun attack on a commercial bus travelling along the Walewale-Tamale route has resulted in the confirmed fatalities of four people, including an infant, according to security services in Walewale, North East Region. According to reports, gunmen attacked and burned the bus as it was on its way from Widana in the Upper East Region’s Pusiga District to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
An infant and three adults suffered irreparable burns. After the bus experienced a mechanical issue and was halted overnight for repairs, the attack took place.
Armed assailants opened fire randomly and torched the car on fire the next morning while the driver and conductor were back to work on repairs. Before police could arrive, the gunmen ran into some nearby thickets.
The Bolgatanga-Walewale-Tamale roadway has seen a number of violent episodes, this tragedy being the most recent. Three people were killed in an ambush and fire near Wulugu two days earlier.
Authorities believe the ongoing Bawku chieftaincy feud is connected to these attacks. In a another instance, an armed attack thought to be connected to the Bawku violence murdered three people in Gumyoko, Binduri District, last night. Along high-risk routes, security personnel have increased patrols and advised travellers to exercise caution.
