An illegal abortion clinic and an unlicensed pharmacy involved in the illicit selling of medications have been discovered by the Asokore Mampong Municipal Security Council in the Ashanti Region’s Asawase slum neighbourhood.
As part of continuous efforts to crack down on drug usage and related criminal activity in the municipality, Ben Abdallah Alhassan, the Municipal Chief Executive, led a special operation on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, during which the discovery was made.
Both illegal establishments were functioning without any regulatory clearance and were situated in a heavily populated slum beside the Peleele Stream. According to authorities, this presents a serious risk to public health and safety, especially for the area’s most vulnerable young people.
Following the operation, Alhassan addressed the media, voicing his alarm and characterizing the situation as a threat that necessitates immediate and ongoing enforcement.
A few illegal characteristics were discovered during the search. There is a clinic there as well as a pharmacy that operates illegally. According to our information, they even carry out illegal abortions there. “This poses a major risk to the health of our community and young people. Some of the medications have been seized for additional analysis,” he said.
