Afia Kobi Ampem Girls SHS Turns 50: A Legacy of Academic Excellence

Afia Kobi Ampem Girls Senior High School has celebrated a major milestone, marking 50 years of academic excellence. The occasion, which brought together former students, traditional leaders, and dignitaries, was a testament to the school’s commitment to providing quality education to young women in Ghana.

Speaking at the event, Headmistress Madam Emelia Amefu Denutsui outlined her vision for the school’s infrastructural development over the next decade. She highlighted plans to construct a STEM department, establish a home economics workshop, expand the assembly hall, and develop extensive farming initiatives, including livestock, fisheries, and poultry.

Madam Emelia emphasized the need for government support to address pressing challenges such as water supply issues, inadequate accommodation, and other infrastructural needs.

“Our vision is to make Afia Kobi Ampem Girls Senior High School a center of excellence in education, where students can thrive and reach their full potential,” Madam Emelia said. “We are committed to providing our students with the best possible facilities and resources to support their academic and personal development.”

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, who was the guest of honor, urged students to take their academic lives seriously and draw inspiration from the school’s successful alumni.

He assured the students that the government was committed to supporting their education and providing the necessary resources to boost their morale.

“As students, you are the future leaders of this country, and it is essential that you take your education seriously,” Dr. Amoakohene said. “I encourage you to be ambitious, work hard, and strive for excellence in all that you do.”

The school’s history dates back to 1975 when it was established as Trabuom Secondary School. It later became Atwimaman Secondary School before being changed to a female school and renamed Afia Kobi Ampem Senior High School in the 2002/2003 academic year.

The 50th-anniversary celebration was a momentous occasion that recognized the school’s achievements and highlighted its commitment to providing quality education to young women in Ghana. As the school looks to the future, it is clear that its focus will remain on providing the best possible education and resources to its students, empowering them to succeed in all aspects of life.
