A/R police break a violent robbery group, leaving one dead and dozens arrested.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has successfully cracked a significant armed robbery syndicate that was active in the Kumasi Metropolis after a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation. Following weeks of gang terror in residential areas such as Abuakwa, Tanoso, Apatrapa, Dechembuoso, and Appiadu, the arrests have taken place.

Speaking to the media in Kumasi, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, the Regional Police Commander, disclosed that one suspect was shot dead following a gunfight with police.

One suspect was shot during a gunfight with police officers during the operation, and the attending medical officer later declared him dead at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, he added. Police reported that Yahaya Nuhu, another suspect, is still at large and is being “actively pursued.”

The group allegedly used pump-action weapons and handguns to break into homes, kidnap whole families, and steal things like gadgets, computers, cash, and cell phones. During one operation, Kwadwo Kyei Baffour, one of the defendants who was captured, admitted to rape.

Suspect Kwadwo Kyei Baffour confessed to taking part in the robberies and to raping someone during one of the operations, according to the police, during questioning. Nine individuals have been taken into custody thus far, including Kwadwo Kyei Baffour, Joseph Oppong, also known as “Joe,” Bernard Owusu Ansah, also known as “Hot Boy,” and multiple accomplices.

Several laptops, phones, television sets, three vehicles used in the robberies, numerous pistols, pump-action shotguns, ammo, and face masks used during operations were among the stolen goods and weapons that police recovered.

“Suspect Bernard Owusu Ansah, who was shot during the arrest and is currently under armed police guard at KATH, led officers to the retrieval of additional weapons,” the police stated. Additionally, Daniel Dwumor, 46, was arrested by the police for reportedly supplying intelligence that made one of the thefts near the KNUST area possible.

The suspects are being held at this time and will appear in court to be arraigned in the next few days. Residents were reassured of ongoing security measures by the Ashanti Regional Police Command, which also praised public participation.

The statement ended by urging all individuals to maintain their vigilance and notify the local police station of any suspicious activity.
