Former National Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), H.E. Alhaji Said Sinare, has been nominated by President John Dramani Mahama as Ghana’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in a daring and calculated diplomatic move.
In a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, dated July 21, 2025, the appointment was formally announced. It is part of a larger diplomatic reorganisation in Ghana that aims to improve the country’s international standing and strengthen bilateral ties.
A seasoned diplomat and well-respected statesman, Alhaji Sinare was Ghana’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Egypt in the former President Mahama government.
Political analysts and observers view his reappointment to Saudi Arabia as a resounding confirmation of his national service dedication, extensive diplomatic experience, and skill. Addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the letter instructs the ministry to take the required actions to expedite the appointment procedures for Alhaji Sinare and seven other notable individuals designated as ambassadors and high commissioners to a number of nations, including Burkina Faso, Namibia, South Korea, Italy, Hungary, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Kenya.
Ghana’s senior envoy, Alhaji Sinare, is returning to Riyadh at a pivotal moment as the country looks to deepen its economic and diplomatic ties with Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf. He is the ideal person to advance Ghana’s interests in the oil-rich Kingdom because of his extensive background in international diplomacy and Arab geopolitics. Mrs. Satireh Dorcas Ocran will be replaced as Ambassador to the Vatican City State by Mr. Benedict Batabe Assorow, according to the announcement made by the presidency.
The appointments, particularly that of Alhaji Sinare, have been praised by the diplomatic community and NDC supporters as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs completes the formalities. They claim that this shows the President’s faith in seasoned professionals who can produce outcomes on the international scene.
With his extensive background, Pan-African credentials, and dedication to Ghana’s democracy and development agenda, Alhaji Said Sinare is anticipated to revitalise Ghana-Saudi relations under the Mahama administration.
