“You have two weeks to exit – Regional Minister Warns illegal Miner’s..

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has given illicit miners working in the region’s forest reserves and water bodies a hard two-week deadline to leave or face harsh legal repercussions.

The government is working to stop illegal mining, or galamsey, which has caused extensive environmental damage, including as deforestation, pollution of important waterways, and farmland devastation.

This decree is a part of that effort. At a Kumasi media event, Dr. Amoakohene reaffirmed the government’s steadfast dedication to environmental preservation and sustainable development.

The livelihoods of many Ghanaians are seriously threatened by illegal mining, which he underlined needs to be addressed forcefully.

Adding that, government will not watch helplessly as our farms become worthless, our woods are diminished, and our waterways are ruined.

Dr. Amoakohene declared, “We are giving all illegal miners operating in these protected areas two weeks to leave or face the full force of the law.”

The Minister also discussed important developmental topics with the media, such as regional unemployment, economic growth, and infrastructure expansion.

The Obuasi killings and other recent security issues were also discussed, and he reassured the people that authorities are making every effort to resolve them.

He also mentioned the forthcoming football match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC, emphasizing the value of sports in bringing people together and fostering local economies. Known for his proactive style to governance, Dr. Amoakohene frequently interacts with stakeholders to address urgent regional issues.

His most recent order regarding illicit mining strengthens the government’s determination to replenish Ghana’s natural resources and guarantee environmental sustainability over the long run.

Now that the enforcement authorities have this ultimatum, everyone will be watching to see how well they can implement the order and guarantee that illicit miners operating in prohibited regions comply.
