Trade Minister meets with Moroccan group to discuss a strategic investment cooperation.

After high-level discussions between the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry and a visiting Moroccan delegation, Ghana and Morocco are moving to deepen their bilateral collaboration in trade, agribusiness, and industrial development.

His Excellency Abderrahim Cherrab, the Deputy Head of Mission at the Moroccan Embassy in Ghana, led the delegation, which met with Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare in Accra on Tuesday to discuss potential investment and collaboration prospects between the two countries.

Ghana’s investor-friendly climate was emphasized by Minister Ofosu-Adjare, who cited tax breaks, cheap shipping, and robust government backing for domestic production.

She promoted Moroccan investment in industries like commercial agriculture, electric vehicle assembly, and fertiliser manufacturing.

Adding that, Ghana’s emphasis on climate-smart agriculture and commercial contract farming to secure raw material supply, saying, “Ghana is ready to serve as a manufacturing hub for West Africa, and we welcome Morocco’s expertise in agribusiness and industry.”

Additionally, she suggested that trade standards be harmonised and that Morocco’s automotive endeavours in the region be based in Ghana.

H.E. Cherrab responded by reiterating Morocco’s commitment to assisting Ghana with its food security goal, announcing plans to send 2,000 tonnes of fertiliser and send a diagnostic team to evaluate Ghana’s agricultural systems.

He mentioned common issues including poor soil fertility, losses after harvest, and an excessive dependence on primary agriculture, and he promised Morocco’s assistance in exchanging best practices via collaborative efforts and South-South collaboration.

The mission comprised specialists from technical universities, national research institutes, and the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation. A 2015 Memorandum of Understanding between the two nations to promote regulatory convergence and investment cooperation was also discussed.

The establishment of a combined commercial committee will be expedited, and participation in trade harmonisation, industrial investment, and agribusiness development will be accelerated. “This visit, especially in food systems and manufacturing, marks the start of a new phase of practical collaboration,” H.E. Cherrab stated.
