Toase Chief Calls on Lawmakers to Join Forces to Combat Illegal Mining.

Toase Chief Nana Yim Awere Ababio, has charged Hon. Seth Osei Akoto and Hon. Shirley Kyei, the MPs for Atwima Mponua and Atwima Nwabiagya South, respectively, to work together to fight the illegal mining epidemic endangering the ecology and livelihoods of the area.

The traditional leader made a strong plea to the two lawmakers to give the preservation of natural resources top priority, especially woods and waterways that are under siege from Galamsey operators, during his speech at the Akwasidae celebration on Sunday at the Toase Palace.

“Our future is on the line. Illegal mining is a threat to our basic life, not simply the environment. In this fight, I’m urging you, our MPs, to present a united front. Nana Yim Awere Ababio II proclaimed, “Let us not let our people down.

In his remarks, Nana Yim Awere Ababio emphasized the urgent need for community cooperation and political commitment in the ongoing battle against illegal mining in the Atwima region, which resonated with the audience.

The chief and the populace were reassured by Hon. Seth Osei Akoto, the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for Atwima Mponua, that he would stop illicit mining in the district.

In order to achieve long-term development, he underlined, environmental protection is crucial. “I am prepared to take decisive action to stop Galamsey’s harm, which I am completely aware of. Hon. Akoto said, “We have to take action now to protect our water and land for future generations.”

In reaffirming her position on the matter, Hon. Shirley Kyei, MP for Atwima Nwabiagya South, pointed out that illicit mining has been a national crisis with disastrous consequences.

She accepted the challenge from the chief and pledged to keep supporting initiatives to stop the threat. “This is a joint obligation.

We are all affected, not just the government or the chiefs. I’m with you, Nana, and I’ll work with stakeholders and my fellow MPs to step up the fight against Galamsey,” she said.

Both individuals and politicians in Ghana are becoming increasingly concerned about the environmental damage caused by illegal mining, especially in the Ashanti Region.

As traditional leaders like the Toasehene raise their voices, political leaders are under increasing pressure to provide long-term answers.

Residents praised the chief’s fearless leadership as the Akwasidae celebration came to a close and expressed optimism for further robust cooperative efforts to recover and protect the area’s natural resources.
