The National Service Authority (NSA) has categorically denied allegations of payroll inflation and the use of “ghost names” in the allocation of allowances to National Service Personnel.
The NSA allegedly fabricated compensation information for the 2023–2024 and 2018–2019 service years.
In a statement issued on December 16, NSA Director General Osei Assibey Antwi dismissed the accusations as “baseless and unfounded.”
He assured the public that the Authority functions in an open and accountable manner.
The NSA announced that its Governing Board has invited the National Inquiry Bureau (NIB) to conduct a thorough investigation into the charges.
Additionally, the Authority urged the public to hold off on making snap decisions or filing accusations against certain individuals until investigations were complete.
The Media Foundation for West Africa ( MFWA ) submitted a petition to the Office of the Special Prosecutor asking for a probe into the matter, which was also acknowledged by the NSA. To find a solution, the Authority pledged to collaborate closely with all relevant parties.
The NSA reiterated its commitment to ensuring that its processes are free from manipulation and asked interested parties to help its efforts to maintain transparency.
“The National Service Authority (NSA) has noted with concern, recent media publications, alleging the introduction of “Ghost Names” and the inflation of payroll for the payment of allowances of National Service Personnel for the service years spanning from 2018/2019 to 2023/2024.
The Authority wishes to state categorically that, these allegations are extremely baseless and unfounded” the statement captured.
In fact, since 2021, the National Service Authority has implemented robust computerized controls that have greatly increased checks and balances in the upstream and downstream mobilisation and deployment of NSO’s.
Over 300 million cedis were saved over the course of four years (2021–2024) as a result of these efforts, which also led to many attempts by fraudster’s to avoid entering the system. The statement went on to say, “The Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, and other important stakeholders have ample evidence of the strong system put in place by the National Service Authority and the progress made over the period.”
