I am not a prophet, but I can submit here and now, without any shred of reservation that President John Dramani Mahama’s quest or declaration to fight corruption, will definitely fall through.
The reason is, where on earth can he fight corruption by simply targeting only his avowed political opponents?
This premise marks the beginning of his landmark failure to eradicate corruption from Ghana under his administration?
Right from the time he was campaigning ahead of the 2024 elections, that culminated in his victory, the impression he and the NDC created among others, was that out of the over 33 million people in Ghana, only the appointees who served under Ex-President Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo Addo were and are corrupt and therefore need to be investigated and persecuted, sorry, prosecuted.
I am saying this against the backdrop or background that within less than a month in office, he, President Mahama, through his Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akurutinga Ayine, terminated all the high profile corruption trial against NDC affiliated individuals, who were being tried for corruption and or, other corruption related cases initiated by his predecessor.
I have been teaching English since my graduation from the only University which produced the first female Vice-Chancellor of a public university in Ghana and also the first female Vice-President of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, and I understand the lexical item ‘all’in the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) very well. ‘All’, as a determiner or better still, a pre determiner, can be explained as everything. It can equally be *used to emphasize that one means the greatest possible amount of the quality one is mentioning.
Surprisingly, ORAL has now become Operation Recover All NPP Loot ( ORANPPL ) and Operation Protect All NDC Loot (ORANDCL).
How can the President effectively fight corruption head on with such a skewed and biased mentality? Are we saying that all the loot that occurred in this country prior to January 7, 2017 did not border of corruption? I am not privy to the content of the phase one ORAL report that was presented at the presidency to the President on Monday, February 10, 2024 by the very vindictive team, but I can say, without any iota of doubt that everything in the documents centres on what happened in Ghana, from the 7th January, 2017 to 6th January, 2025.
With this, are Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa, Mr Daniel Domelovo, COP Kofi Boakye (RTD), Mr Martin Kpebu and Mr Raymond Archer saying that looting of state property in Ghana did start on the 7th January, 2017?
I can assure them that they would appreciate the nature of the very biased work they have done, when the Attorney General begin to suffer legal defeats in the law courts over the content of ORAL documents.
Politicians do not learn lessons from history! Ex-President Akufo Addo did all that he could during his eight-year reign to protect and defend his appointees, family and friends and the consequence is what we are witnessing in Ghana today.
President Mahama is replicating what the Ex-President did and mark my words, by the time he exits office by the midnight of Saturday, 6th January, 2029, he would have achieved
virtually nothing in his so-called quest to root out corruption in Ghana.
