The parliament has approved the makeup of Ghana’s Appointments Committee, which is in charge of screening and recommending applicants for ministerial and other high-level posts.
The committee will be chaired by First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor, with Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah serving as vice chair.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has been named the Ranking Member, while Patricia Appiagyei is the Deputy Ranking Member.
The Appointments Committee’s primary responsibility is to review individuals nominated by the President for key positions, including Ministers of State, Deputy Ministers, and other roles mandated by the Constitution or relevant laws.
Majority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson presented the committee’s composition report at Wednesday, January 8, 2025’s parliamentary session.
He emphasized how important it is to ensure that Parliament has proportional representation, which is based on the ratio of 183 majority members to 88 minority members.
“The committee respectfully recommends to the House to adopt this report and approve the Appointments and Business Committee membership as composed, as well as the recomposition of the Committees of Selection,” Dr. Forson said.
