Tapa-Abotoase, the town where barter trade is still very much in fashion today

 

Barter trade, an ancient system where goods were exchanged without the use of money, is still being actively practiced in Ghana.

This ancient method of business transaction is still being practiced at a market at Tapa-Abotoase in the Biakoye District of the Oti region.

The common form of barter trade in the Tapa-Abotoase market includes exchange of farms goods such as maize, plantain cassava, and corn dough for fish, a post shared on X indicated.

The caption of the post read” The ancient barter trade, where goods are exchanged for other goods without the use of money, still exists in Ghana. At the Abotoase market in Tapa-Abotoase, Biakoye District of the Oti Region, this practice is common.

“The most frequent form of barter involves exchanging farm goods, such as maize, plantain, cassava, and corn dough, for fish.”
