Residents of Sokoban Newsite and surrounding areas are sounding the alarm over the deplorable state of their road, which has been neglected for eight long years.

The community is calling on the government to intervene and address the issue, which has led to a surge in health problems and even deaths.

Kaase Adonteng Hene, Nana Boakye Yiadom, expressed the community’s distress, stating that students are dying and many residents are suffering from diseases due to the poor road conditions.
“The issue is very worrying,” he said. “Lot of diseases has been attacking lot of residents, which has led to lot of death.”

The Assembly member for the electoral area, Hon. Kwame Boateng, echoed these concerns, appealing to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and provide relief to the community. “Asthmatic patients are dying and suffering due to the neglect of the road since 2019,” he said.
“School children, elderly, and infants are all suffering from this dust on the neglected road.”
Hon. Boateng attributed the neglect to a dispute between the government and the contractor, Kofi Job, who claims the government owes him money. “The contractor told us that the government is owing him, that’s why he stopped working on the road,” Hon. Boateng said.

The residents are pinning their hopes on President Mahama’s government, which they believe is committed to listening to the needs of its citizens. “We know President Mahama is a listening government and will hear our plea,” Hon. Boateng said.

The community is urging the government to take immediate action to address the issue and provide relief to the affected residents. The neglect of the road has had a devastating impact on the community, and residents are demanding justice.
