The Adwumawura Programme Initiative is a flagship program that His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama has launched to empower youth nationwide and create jobs. President Mahama stressed during the program’s launch at Kumasi’s Prempeh Assembly Hall that the Adwumawura Programme would not be a mere showpiece but rather a fully funded initiative with sufficient funding from the Ministry of Finance in the 2025 budget.
“The program is dedicated to promoting youth employment through a nationwide selection to empower youth employment initiative programs,” said President Mahama.
In order to help young entrepreneurs expand their companies and generate employment, the initiative seeks to give them access to capital, coaching, and mentorship. About 10,000 young people are targeted annually for four years, with an emphasis on offering them full business advice services, the President said.
The National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program (NEIP), which is implementing the Adwumawura Program in collaboration with it, will facilitate market access, supply enterprises with machinery and equipment, and offer other types of assistance.
The President stated that an impartial body will be used to choose companies based on their potential for development, with some beginning this year and others the following year.
The selection process for the program would be inclusive, with opportunities for youth in vocational schools, tertiary institutions, and senior high schools. President Mahama stressed that about 60% of the beneficiaries would be drawn from unemployed youth, women, the disabled, and youth from rural areas, to help contribute meaningfully to global youth employment indicators.
The President urged interested youth to log onto the programโs platform to apply and create jobs, ensuring that their businesses would be supported. He also announced that there would be trade expeditions for all companies supported by the program to showcase their products, as part of efforts to address inclusivity, facilitate access to funding, and partner with markets.
In order to invest in the youth through the Adwumawura Program, President Mahama urged traditional leaders and civil society organisations (CSOs) to collaborate with the government. He stated his hope that the initiative would boost employment, job development, and economic expansion, ultimately resulting in a better Ghana.
An important step has been taken in Ghana to address young unemployment and encourage entrepreneurship with the establishment of the Adwumawura Programme Initiative.
The initiative has the ability to significantly improve the lives of young people nationwide with its emphasis on inclusivity, funding accessibility, and extensive business consulting services.
As President Mahama pointed out, the program represents a commitment to promoting youth employment and creating a better Ghana, not merely an effort.
