President Akufo-Addo commissions 4 District Hospitals in Ashanti Region

The president of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, formally launched four (4) of the five (5) district hospitals in the Ashanti region, each having 40 beds, on Monday, November 25, 2024. Suame in the Suame Municipality, Twedie in the Atwima Kwanwoma District, Sabronum in the Ahafo Ano South East District, and Drobonso in the Sekyere Afram Plains District are the four district hospitals in the Ashanti area.

Similarly completed but not yet operational is the district hospital in Manso Nkwanta, Amansie West District.

As you may remember, in 2020, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, the Health Minister, officially opened the building of twelve 40-bed hospitals in the Ashanti, Eastern, and Greater Accra regions, as well as one polyclinic at Mim in the Brong Ahafo area.

Other locations where these hospitals have been established throughout the nation include Jumapo, Kwabeng, Nkwatia, Achiase, Adukrom, Mim, and Kpone Katamanso. They were constructed by VAMED Engineering GmbH of Austria.

In order to build and furnish these 40-bed hospitals, a €71,500,000 facility was obtained from Erste Group Bank AG and Česká Spořitelna a.s. Additionally, each facility has 12 units of 2-bedroom semi-detached housing for hospital staff.

The hospitals have two public health officer offices, a 36-person waiting area, three prenatal consultation rooms, a counselling room, and an outpatient department with the required consultation rooms in addition to the residential housing for hospital staff. The theater’s amenities include a surgical suite, an eight-bed paediatric ward, an eight-bed male ward, an eight-bed female ward, four labour delivery stations, an eight-bed maternity ward, a two-bed recovery room, and a four-bed lying-in.

President Akufo-Addo urged the staff and locals to ensure that the facilities are adequately run and maintained in order to satisfy the government’s commitment to improve the health of all citizens of the country by improving the infrastructure for health care.
