
The Ghana Police Service has arrested 93 suspects, including suspected kingpins in the illicit narcotics trade, following a 10-day intelligence-led operation across parts of the Ashanti Region.
The swoop, conducted by the Inspector-General of Police Special Operations Team (SOT) between July 15 and 24, 2026, targeted Kumasi, surrounding communities, and the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality.

Raids Cover 14 Communities
In a statement issued on Monday, July 27, the Service said its teams raided several suspected criminal hideouts and drug trafficking hubs.
The affected areas included Afari, Nkawie, Ntobroso, Ahodwo, Ampabame, Atonsu Ahensan, Atonsu Gyinyase, Alabar, Asokore Mampong, Sawaba Adinyase, Buobai, Atimatim, Kronum, and Sawaba.
According to the Police, the operations were aimed at dismantling networks involved in drug distribution and other organised criminal activities that have been identified in the region.

Profile Of Suspects
A total of 93 suspects were arrested — 58 males and 35 females.
Preliminary investigations indicate that 65 of them are Ghanaian nationals, while 28 are Nigerian nationals.
Among those picked up are:
– Nurudeen Gafaru, 28
– Abdul Gafaru, 29
– Iddrisu Alhassan, also known as “Tagor”, 33
– Akwasi Afriyie, 27
– Nigerian national Prince Chidera Okekelawe, 25
The Police said the suspects are believed to be key players in the illicit narcotics trade within the Ashanti Region and are currently assisting with investigations into suspected drug trafficking and other related offences.

Large Cache Of Drugs And Exhibits Retrieved
The operation also yielded a significant quantity of suspected narcotics and other exhibits.
Items retrieved include:
– 40 compressed parcels, each weighing about one kilogram, containing substances suspected to be narcotic drugs
– Quantities of Tramadol tablets
– Ecstasy tablets
– Three wraps of substances suspected to be cocaine
– Dried leaves suspected to be narcotics
– 30 locally manufactured toffees suspected to contain narcotic substances
The Police disclosed that during the raids, officers also uncovered suspected commercial sexual exploitation activities at one of the locations visited.
Investigations are ongoing to determine possible links to human trafficking networks, exploitation facilitators, and immigration-related offences.

The Service assured that all suspects will be processed for prosecution while further intelligence work continues to identify other persons connected to the syndicates.
