Over 7,500 football fields in the forest reserve have been demolished by Galamseyers – Minister reveals.

Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, reported that unlicensed miners have destroyed 7,500 football fields’ worth of forest reserves. More than forty-four forest reserves, or thirty hectares, had been destroyed, according to him.

As he toured the Offin Shelter Belt at Anwiafutu to witness the forest’s devastation, he said steps are being taken to secure the green field in the Ashanti area.

The regional Security Council, the Ashanti regional minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources took a tour of the Offin Shelter Belt in Anwiafutu in the Atwima Mponua District.

Speaking to reporters on the ground, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah likened the devastation of forest reserves by illegal miners to 7,500 football fields. He emphasized that the fight against galamsey will not be a one-time event and that the offenders will be held accountable.

“This is for the police officers, this government is fully supporting you to carry out your duties and ensure that you bring those responsible for our deaths to justice without fear or favour,” he said, assigning the police a duty.

The Minister claims that the task of rebuilding places that have been destroyed has already started. The public was urged by Mr. Kofi Buah to assist in the fight against galamsey.
