Oforikrom MCE Joins Dignitaries at Akwasidae Celebration at Manhyia Palace

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Oforikrom, Hon. Anwel Sadat, joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership and other distinguished dignitaries at the first Akwasidae celebration of the year at the historic Manhyia Palace on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

The ceremony, one of the most revered traditional observances in Asanteman, brought together traditional rulers, political leaders, opinion leaders, and citizens from across the Ashanti Region and beyond.

The high-profile delegation included respected members of the Council of State, Hon. Betty Mould-Iddrisu and Chairman Yaw Obimpeh, alongside senior party officials, traditional leaders, and government representatives, who gathered to pay homage to the Asantehene, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Addressing the gathering on behalf of the government, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of His Excellency the President to the Asantehene and the entire Asanteman.

He reaffirmed the government’s respect for traditional authorities and pledged continued collaboration with the Manhyia Palace to advance development initiatives across the region.

The Akwasidae celebration featured customary rites, drumming, dancing, and the exchange of courtesies, providing a platform for interaction between traditional leaders, political figures, and the general public.

Hon. Anwel Sadat expressed his gratitude to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for the opportunity to participate in the ceremony and reiterated his commitment to working closely with traditional leaders to drive grassroots development.

The event highlighted the deep-rooted cultural heritage of the Asante people and the enduring relevance of traditional authority in modern governance.

It also underscored the strong bond between political leadership and traditional institutions in promoting peace, unity, and development in the region.
