The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Executives have denounced the GHs 50 million bail that EOCO imposed on Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi.
Speaking to the media on Friday, they asked for fair bail conditions and urged EOCO to use its discretion wisely by reevaluating its terms, as they have the authority to do so.
As part of their efforts to ensure that the matter is handled fairly and openly, they claim that “granting reasonable bail terms is part of fairness so that Bernard Antwi Boasiako can have his liberty to adequately prepare for his defence, if any, and also seek medical care from his trusted medics.”
In a defensive stance, NPP Ashanti regional secretary Lawyer Kwame Adom Appiah told reporters that party members think Chairman Wontumi is innocent of the accusations made against him.
“To test our beliefs, let reasonable bail terms be granted to him to gain his freedom, so that before the court admissible evidence would be taken, which would ultimately vindicate our position that he is innocent of the allegations,” he reiterated.
