The Mpasatia Traditional Council in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region has taken a bold step to combat drug abuse in the community by destroying a notorious “wee smokers’ ghetto”.

The operation, which involved pulling down and burning the drug den, is part of the council’s efforts to address the growing problem of illegal drug use and its associated social challenges in Mpasatia and surrounding communities.

The exercise was led by Nana Yaw Adjei, Kyidomhene of Mpasatia, with the support of local authorities and organized youth groups. The move sends a strong signal that the community will not tolerate drug-related activities that threaten peace and development.

Addressing residents after the operation, Nana Yaw Adjei expressed deep concern over the alarming behavior of some youth, warning that drug abuse could tarnish the image of the town and derail its future. “Our focus is to protect Mpasatia and ensure it is known for positive values, not criminal activities,” he stated.
Nana Osei Asibey, Mmarenteɛhene of Mpasatia, described drug abuse as a serious menace destroying the potential of the youth.
He emphasized that the traditional authorities would not stand idly by while the future of the community is undermined.
“The exercise is aimed at dismantling drug dens while encouraging support and rehabilitation for individuals struggling with addiction,” he added.

The Traditional Council has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with relevant stakeholders to maintain law and order and promote social development in Mpasatia. The community is rallying behind the council’s efforts to create a safer and healthier environment for its residents.
The destruction of the drug den is seen as a significant step towards addressing the issue of drug abuse in the community, and it is expected to serve as a deterrent to others who may be involved in similar activities.
