In a sessional presentation, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s (KMA) metropolitan chief executive, outlined his developmental goals for the city.
The speech took place at the first regular session of the second session of the 9th Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.
The MCE’s speech addressed a number of important topics, such as public relations and corporate image, governance and security, human resource management, legal issues, finance and revenue, environmental sanitation and waste management, transportation, projects and programs, development planning, markets redevelopment, spatial planning and development control, disaster management, social welfare and community development, agriculture, education, youth and sports, and health services.
The MCE stressed the significance of security and sound governance for the growth of the city. He outlined the actions taken by the Assembly to enhance traffic control and enforcement, such as the impoundment of automobiles and the imposition of fines on violators.
He also spoke about the Assembly’s intentions to work with interested parties to identify long-term fixes for the city’s sanitary problems.
The MCE recognized the city’s problems with trash management and environmental sanitation. He described how the Assembly is working to enhance garbage collection and disposal, including by enlisting private parties and offering financial assistance to low-income households so they can build toilets in their homes.
Hon. Boadi emphasized the city’s transport issues, including as traffic jams and unauthorized car loading and unloading. He gave a summary of the Assembly’s initiatives to enhance transport, such as promoting mass public transport and cutting travel times.
The Assembly’s financial performance, including the increase in internally generated cash, was covered by the MCE. He described the Assembly’s initiatives to improve revenue mobilisation, which include improved oversight and monitoring, reprimand and reward, digitisation, stakeholder involvement, and efficient ratepayer communication.

His goals for the city’s growth are focused on revenue mobilisation, transportation, finance, environmental sanitation, security, and good governance.
