Manhyia South Constituency Launches Soloku Festival to Foster Unity and Tourism

 


The people of Manhyia South Constituency in the Ashanti Region are set to celebrate the inaugural Soloku Festival, a vibrant cultural event aimed at promoting unity, peace, and harmony among residents.

The festival, which doubles as the constituency’s official Easter celebration, is expected to attract tourists and generate revenue for the local economy.

According to Madam Serwaah Kobi Osisiadan, Program Organizer, the Soloku Festival is designed to bring people together, transcending political affiliations, to strengthen unity and promote peaceful coexistence within the constituency and the Ashanti Region as a whole.

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South Constituency, Esq. Hon. Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, emphasized the importance of tourism in driving development, citing the Nottingham Carnival in England, which generates £400 million annually. He expressed his desire to replicate this success in Manhyia South, leveraging the Soloku Festival to attract tourists and stimulate economic growth.

“This Soloku festival will help renovate abandoned hotels within the constituency and boost income,” Hon. Baffour Awuah said, highlighting the potential benefits of the festival. He added that the event will feature various activities, including food competitions, drafting competitions, tug-of-war, and other games, as well as a street walk with the Soloku band through other constituencies to promote the festival.

The MP expressed his commitment to revitalizing the local hotel industry, saying, “We want to uplift the collapse hotel businesses in the constituency.” The Soloku Festival promises to be a significant event, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Manhyia South and promoting unity and development in the region.

The festival is expected to attract visitors from across the region and beyond, providing a boost to the local economy and promoting Ashanti culture. With its vibrant activities and inclusive spirit, the Soloku Festival is set to become a major event in the Ashanti Region’s calendar.
