As tensions in the conflict-torn enclave continue to claim lives, Majority Leader Hon. Mahama Ayariga is pleading with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, to move quickly to hasten the Bawku peace negotiations.
At least six persons have been killed in Bawku, allegedly by military operatives conducting an operation in the area.
The Majority Leader urged the Asantehene to assist in bringing peace back during a press conference in Parliament. “We are pleading with him to act quickly. Despite the complexity of the situation, we all have faith in him and his capacity to resolve it. For all of us, the earlier the better. The MPs are pleading with him to act quickly because of this,” he stated on Tuesday.
The military carried out an operation in Bawku on Sunday, killing six people and injuring more than twenty others, according to the majority.
Tempane MP Lydia Akanvariba recounted the events and called on the military to apologise for what they called unprofessional behaviour.
