I’ll support any policy approach for Free SHS – Deputy Finance Minister nominee.

The public has been assured by Thomas Nyarko Ampem, the deputy minister-designate for finance, that there are no plans to rescind the Free Senior High School (SHS) program and that he remains committed to its continuation.

In order to secure adequate funding for the effective implementation of the plan, the Asuogyaman MP who was screened by Parliament’s Appointments Committee pledged to collaborate closely with Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on Monday, February 24, 2025.

Regarding Free SHS, Mr. Nyarko Ampem clarified that his primary objective is to improve its execution rather than reduce funding. “There is no covert plan to terminate Free SHS,” he stated.

I’ll work with my minister to ensure that there is adequate funding for education. If Ghanaians reach an agreement on a certain course for the policy and it becomes official government policy, I will be all in favour of it.

I believe President Mahama’s promise to Ghanaians that he will not terminate Free SHS,” he said.
