Barima Mintah Afari II, the Chief of Chiraa in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region, has become “dumsor” over the sporadic power supply. To help with dumsor, Barima Mintah Afari called for a head roll at NEDCo in the Bono region if their duties have proven challenging to carry out.
The Chiraahene thinks that some VRA/NEDCo employees would undermine the system in order to undermine the NDC administration by depicting it as a “dumsor” government. She also thinks that some employees might get involved in politics in order to damage the government’s reputation.
The Chief disclosed that, as a result of the recent power supply volatility, he is under tremendous pressure from the people of Chiraa. He claims that his residents have consistently voiced their concerns about the erratic power supply, which keeps interfering with both home and business operations.
He bemoaned the fact that, despite being a traditional leader, he had received several calls from locals pleading with him to step in and assist in resolving the power problem.
When the Sunyani West MP paid him a courtesy call at his palace in Chiraa on Easter Monday to formally introduce the Sunyani West MCE and the newly elected presiding Member to the Chiraa Traditional Council, Barima Mintah Afari said these things.
In his counsel to political leaders, Barima Mintah Afari II advised the Municipal Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for Sunyani West Constituency to make sure that projects are distributed fairly so that all people can benefit.
He pointed out that political leaders should avoid prejudice towards sharing development, even though the municipality contains a large number of geological and traditional sites.
Every community should have equal access to opportunities and growth, free from discrimination based on ancestry or place of birth, according to Chiraahene.
But Chiraahene’s demand for justice appears to run counter to his subsequent plea for the MP and MCE to fund further projects in his region in order to raise living standards.
In order to advance Sunyani West, Nana Mintah Afari also exhorted the leaders to work together and show respect for traditional leaders. Furthermore, Barima Mintah Afari gave the assembly the task of moving illegal container erections in Chiraa.
He promised to supply the land needed to move all of the containers to the suggested location, claiming that doing so would contribute to the creation of a respectable community plan.
