Hawa Koomson loses the Awutu Senya East seat to NDC’s Naa Koryoo.

Following Saturday’s elections, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Awutu Senya East Constituency, was proclaimed the victor. After hours of misunderstanding at the collation centre, she declared victory over Mavis Hawa Koomson, the incumbent Member of Parliament for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor received 50,886 votes, or 52.7% of the total, while Hawa Koomson, her rival, received 45,638 votes, or 47.3%.

The NPP’s 2012 hold on the Awutu Senya East Constituency has ended with the election of Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor as the MP-elect.

With this win, Hawa Koomson, who served as MP for more than ten years, will no longer be in office.
