The Ghana Tertiary Education Council (GTEC) has ordered the immediate closure of Royal Nursing College in Tafo Nhyiaeso, Ashanti Region, due to the institution’s failure to provide documentation verifying its accreditation.

The college, which has over 800 students, does not hold accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery Council and had ignored a previous directive issued in June 2024, prohibiting the admission of new students.
GTEC officials visited the campus on Thursday, February 19, and after an inspection, announced the closure, citing concerns about programme management and the quality of education being offered.
The Council emphasized that the measure was necessary to protect students and enforce national education standards.
Plans are underway to transfer affected students to accredited institutions, with special arrangements expected for final-year students to complete their programmes.
However, the abrupt closure has left many students distraught, with some reportedly in tears on campus. Several students expressed frustration, noting that they had recently paid tuition fees only to face an unexpected disruption to their studies.
During the enforcement visit, the Criminal Investigation Department accompanied GTEC officials, taking into custody the wife of the school’s owner and certain members of the college’s management team.
The closure highlights GTEC’s commitment to ensuring that tertiary institutions in Ghana meet the required standards and accreditation criteria.
The Council has assured students that it is working to minimize disruptions to their studies and ensure that they are transferred to accredited institutions to complete their programmes.
